the Bitters

The Bitters came to town to visit for the weekend--Kelly is working for JetBlue now. It is thanks to Laurie that I am back online and blogging again. She helped clean out my hard drive and showed me a few new tricks. It is still necessary to upgrade to more gigs as I've only got 3% of free space.

It was great to visit with old friends and get Laurie's help.

RMSC

Yesterday, we went to the RMSC to see the Body Human Exhibit. While there, I took pictures of Noah behaving. He needed a little help from his dad, to keep from harassing his sisters.

Annabel got all dressed up to see the bodies. She is set on being a surgeon and I guess this is her professional look.

DDR

Our library hosted a HSM party on the 26th. The girls had seen the movie so many times we skipped out on it, but returned for the party. Annabel jumped at a chance to try out the Dance, Dance Revolution game, but Bea and Cameron waited until the party had almost ended before giving it a try. The local paper sent a photographer, and the girls ended up in the local section of the paper yesterday. It was a very exciting moment seeing their faces in print! Bea and Cameron loved the game so much they came home and made their own floor pad to practice their dance moves.

Christmas Day

We had a lovely Christmas day. The kids made gifts for each other and as their mother, I love the little acts of kindness. They are too few and far between. I think everyone was happy. The family got an XBOX 360, and to quote Noah when he saw it for the first time, "I almost cried." We finished the day with our Christmas dinner with friends, of which I have no pictures because I was too tired to think!

Carolling on Christmas Eve

My children's favorite Christmas tradition is carolling with the Jensen family on Christmas eve. Every year, Cary has a list of homebound families and others that we travel by caravan to singing our little hearts out and spreading Christmas cheer. We then end up at the Jensen's home for corn chowder and assorted appetizers. My kids were counting down the days to Christmas Eve, rather than Christmas day. I must admit, it was the first time this month I had actually felt the Christmas spirit.

Music

I have had several comments on my excellent music selection. And, 1 complaint from my DEAF father that I have no country music, specifically George Strait. BTW, he really is deaf and can't hear a dang thing. So, I have added a few of my favorites, and as I think of others will add them to the list. I hope this does not cause any of you to refrain from visiting my blog and I gently remind my readers to leave comments. You know I am blog junkie and need attention. I can see that you have been by, but didn't bother to say howdy do.

Elf name

I found this silly little elf. I only share it because it came up with this completely random name that I thought was rather appropriate.

Your Elf Name Is...

Christmas Cactus

After many years of being either too early or too late, all three of my Christmas Cacti are blooming for Christmas. A tidbit I find interesting is that all of my cacti came from Karen Lyman, either cuttings she started for me or by way of the Storheims who left me theirs (which also came from Karen.) BTW, the only other plant I have in my house is a rubber tree plant that is Darren's . I can only tolerate/care for plants that require neglect!

Happy Anniversary

Today is my parent's 42nd anniversary. That seems like a really long time, especially since I don't think of my parents being old enough to get that far in life. For that matter, I am not old enough to be their oldest child!

Does anyone remember them being this young? This is how I usually think of them, so I'm always a little surprised when I see them now. I'm guessing they were in their mid 30s.

Happy Anniversary, I love you and I'm glad you have kept it together all these years.

Santa

Posted by Picasa

Santa came to our ward party on Saturday. No one knew who he was or where he came from. I finally found out that he was a neighbor of some one from the ward. I think that is pretty funny.

Bea has never been very fond of visiting Santa. Now that she is 6 1/5, she is willling to go talk to him, but I think she is still rather wary.

Annabel always has plenty to say to the man in red. Though she is in my ear saying the only thing she said this year is "I want a Nintendo DS." Let's hope she's not too disappointed this year.

Noah never showed up.

Rock band

Last night we went to Scott and April's house to play Rock Band. It is an Xbox 360 game we play with toy drums, guitars and microphones. Darren and I never really got into rock music, we must have been more top 40 kind of teenagers, but Cary revisited his hey day with songs like Dani California by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Won't Get Fooled Again by the Who,
Tom Sawyer by Rush.

You watch the screen to know what notes to play and it has a karioke like banner across the top to sing along with the band.

The game moves along rather quickly and everyone is following their parts.

I believe piano players and violinist have an unfair advantage to those of us who aren't so musically inclined.
Scott's advantage is that he is Scott.

Eventually we all rotate through each instrument, until you find one you can win with.Posted by Picasa

Scores are pretty good here!

Nor'easter

We had some pretty serious snow yesterday. Luckily for us, it was snow and not the ice that the midwest saw earlier in the week.

Darren loves his snowplow. seriously.

Winnie loves the snow and buries her nose in the drifts. She catches the snowballs the kids throw to her with her mouth.

Birthday

Yesterday morning, I was awaken with flowers and gifts for my birthday. Darren then bought lox and bagels for breakfast. This was especially nice, since he can't stand salmon. My good friend
Sarah made me a cake, Zion brought cookies over and several close friends surprised me at lunch at El Parien. Laura had even hidden a gift in my closet from when she was here watching my kids while we were in Spain in November. I am very thankful for all the letters, and emails and phone calls from family and friends wishing me a happy birthday. I have more pictures, but they are lost somewhere in my computer. If I ever find them, I'll post them.

I found the cake. Isn't is pretty. It tasted good, too.
