Another Ladder Story

The painting bug bit Darren and he has gotten busy painting our entry.

However, he has risked life and limb to reach the top of our two story vaulted ceilings. Thanks to our friend Jonathan with the really tall ladder.

Winter Camping with the Scouts

Noah was surprisingly excited about this campout. Last one, he refused to go, but this time they will be in a big cabin. I don't blame him in the least for not enjoying the cold, but he has warm winter gear and he doesn't think he will be cold. There is something to be said for good long johns. He is pleased to report that he isn't wearing any cotton and he has a new sleeping bag that is rated to -15 degrees.

Prior to his last swim meet, he told me not to take any pictures of him just standing around. One can see from his expression that I have crossed the line.

I told him that I am a photographer and that is what I do. I take pictures. He should smile.

We've had 3 weeks without any snow. It started to snow today and they are headed for the hills. He looks warm. Two sets of handwarmers and a large sub sandwich should get him through till tomorrow afternoon.

Stir Crazy

We have been home together all week with very little to occupy ourselves. The TV would not turn on. I am sure many would think that a blessing, but not us, especially during a school break and right in the middle of American Idol and a new season of Survivor.

After several days of just staring each other down, the TV repairman came and brought joy (or at least the Disney Channel) back into our home!

Another Baby Hat

It took me a while, but I figured out how to make a flower-topper that I like. I think it looks like a party hat. I just need to add an elastic string under the chin and light some candles.

Church Ball

Noah is playing church ball this year and is loving it. His Young Men's president is a great coach and teacher. Noah has learned a lot about b-ball and scored a 3 pointer in his first game.

Valentine Hair

Bea is celebrating Valentine's day at school and we fixed up her hair for the class party.

I give all the credit for the design to this blog. I am not very good at ribbons and bows, but by my standards--it looks great.

Check out the Natural Lighting

on these two pictures. I was quite surprised when I got home from the swim meet last week to see these. It was just perfect timing with the light coming through the wall of windows on one end of the natatorium (how's that for a big word?). There is still much room for improvement, but I was tickled to see the great lighting.

By the way, Noah is loving swimming and doing a great job. He has the fastest time in the 50 fly for his middle school.

Superbowl Party

So last week I realized the Superbowl was coming and Noah was quite excited to see it. I asked Darren what did he want to eat that night and he said, "Aren't we going to the Tuttle's? So I casually call Anna and coerce her to host another Superbowl party. She did it last year, so of course we will assume it is an annual event. Thanks for being a good sport, Anna. We had a great time.
Bea came to play with Roxy.
Noah and Christian were ready to cheer on the Cardinals, as were we all, but the Sheltons and Lue.
These pictures don't show our excitement, they must have been taken during the 1st quarter.
By the time the game got exciting, I had put away the camera.
Thanks for another great party. Same time, same place next year?!

Girls' Weekend

This last weekend was my annual girls' weekend. We were planning to stay at a lakehouse on Canadaigua Lake. It was a weekend that did not go as planned. To begin, Heidi's flight was canceled and she decided to stay home. Mary and Paige made it here on Friday and we spent the afternoon eating and shopping and then headed to the lake. Joanna unlocks the front door and we hear the sound of running water-similar to that of a large fountain. We walk into the kitchen and find a pipe has burst and the whole house is flooded.
Of course, panic ensues and we are frantically trying to find the water main to the house...to no avail. Eventually, the fire department had to come to turn it off. Downstairs, where we were to sleep, the ceiling had collapsed and there was 4-5 inches of standing water and the ceiling was raining. This was the bed I had planned to sleep in.
After checking out a local hotel and trying to decide where to stay, we realized Suzy's mom was out of town and we commandeered her lovely, large home for the weekend. What a relief! Joanna and Paige warming up in front of the fire. Amazing Paige had gotten quite wet as she tried to turn off the water in the raining basement.

suzy and mary
Heidi, you were missed terribly and this was your empty seat at Cheesecake factory. Our weekend was not the same without you.
Saturday morning, we were joined by another group of good friends. The plan was basically to hang out and eat, and enjoy time together without our kids. Bea saw a picture of our group and said, "hey, they are all moms." Yea, it is nice to be individuals again. Anna even said for a short moment she forgot she was a parent. We need to do this more often.
It seems green was the color of the day. We ventured out into the snow for dinner. There were nine of us that night.

Once back we immediately put on our jammies and get down to the good stuff. I love this picture of Amy. She looks like she is having a great time (as we all were).

We had 7 pieces of cheesecake that got passed around to be enjoyed by all.
I don't believe this was planned, but don't these little munchkins look cute.
Nothing says girls' weekend like midnight guacamole.
This is not everyone who spent time with us this weekend, but everyone who was there at 11pm on Saturday night.
I love my friends and I love that we can count on our husbands to take care of the kids and give us all a little break. Just a shame we can't do this more often.
